Posted from World Of Tarot.com Tarocchi decks were invented in Italy in the 1430s by adding to the existing four-suited pack a fifth suit of 21 specially illustrated cards called trionfi (“triumphs”). The cards were used to play a bridge-like game known as tarocchi, popular at the time among nobles and other leisure lovers. Tarot cards likely originated in northern Italy during the late 14th or early 15th century.
